While there are endless items you can buy for your dog, our full list here of recommendations can be found in our Product Guide, we recommend prioritizing:
A great harness
Using a harness will help prevent your adopted dog from pulling and give you more control on walks. We love the Freedom Harness.
A sturdy leash
Choose a sturdy, 4-6 foot leash to ensure your dog is secure and can't get too far ahead of you. We love this rope leash.
A reliable collar
When purchasing a collar, you want to get one that won't enable your dog to slip out. Chocker and prong collars are unsafe and highly discouraged, but Martingale collars are a great option because they will prevent your adopted dog from slipping out of the collar and won't cause matting or bald spots like some standard collars.
A mesh crate
Choose a mesh crate so your adopted dog can see what’s going on at home. The crate should be big enough for your adopted dog to sit, stand, lie down, and turn around, but they shouldn’t be able to do laps. Size up as your dog grows up.
A high quality dog bed (with removable cover)
Choose a bed with a cover that can be easily removed and washed. This will make your life easier (and cleaner)! We love the Brindle Orthopedic Dog Bed.
An ID Tag
Your dog should have an ID tag with your name, your adopted dog's name and your contact info. Chewy.com creates personalized ID tags.
